What is Dadurday?
Dadurday is a free iPhone app that helps dads with kids at home make dad friends nearby. You see dads near you with kids the same age and when they're usually free, wave at something on a profile, and join small hangouts other dads host. It's starting in Clear Lake, League City, Webster, Kemah and Seabrook, in the Houston Bay Area, Texas.
Who is Dadurday for?
Dads around Clear Lake who'd like a few friends at the same stage, from a baby on the way to kids in high school. It's especially good if you're new to the area, work shifts, or co-parent and have some quiet weekends. Married, single, divorced, all welcome.
I work weekends. Can I still use it?
Yes. Dadurday isn't only Saturdays. Tell it when you're usually off: weekday mornings or afternoons, weeknights, the weekend, or “it changes week to week” if you work shifts. You'll see dads who are free when you are, and a Tuesday-morning hangout is as easy to post as a Saturday one.
Where does it work?
In the Houston Bay Area, Texas: Clear Lake, League City, Webster, Kemah and Seabrook, about 9 miles around Clear Lake. We open one area at a time so there are always dads near you. Somewhere else? Join the list below and we'll let you know when it opens near you.
Is anyone on it yet?
It's early. Dadurday is just opening around Clear Lake, so the first dads in are the ones who start the first hangouts. Every dad you bring makes it better for you.
What's TestFlight?
Apple's own free app for trying apps before they're in the App Store. Tap the button on your iPhone, install TestFlight if you don't have it, then tap Accept and Install. It's made by Apple, and it never asks for a card.
Is it really free?
Yes. There are no ads, no paid tier and no sponsors, and your data isn't for sale.
Is it safe to meet dads from an app?
Everyone signs in with Apple or Google. Before you join a hangout you see the area and who's going, and the exact spot is only shared with the dads who are in. Every profile, photo, post and message can be reported or blocked, a person reads every report, and a ban stays a ban.
Do I have to host anything?
No. Most dads start by waving at a profile or joining a hangout someone else is hosting. Hosting is there when you want it.
Is it on Android?
Not yet. The iPhone beta is open now, and Android is next. Join the list below and we'll let you know when it's out.
What do other dads see about me?
Your first name and last initial, your age range, your neighborhood (like “League City”) and a rough distance, never your address. Also your photos, your kids' ages, your answers and when you're usually free. Life moments like “Co-parenting” or “New to the area”, and a marital status like “Divorced”, only show up as something in common, and only to dads who share them.
Why is it called Dadurday?
For the feeling of a Saturday with nowhere to be. Plenty of dads get that feeling on a Wednesday, so it isn't tied to the calendar. Every day off is a Dadurday. (Say it like Saturday: DAD-ur-day.)
